February 21: Shawna Bynum

Shawna Nichelle Bynum is a native of Asheville, NC. She is a graduate of Sandhills Community College where she earned an Associate of Arts Degree in Early Childhood Education in 2007. In 2018, she received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Child Development & Family Studies from the University of South Carolina Upstate.

Shawna has more than 15 years’ experience in early childhood development serving in the positions of Director with St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church Preschool, Spartanburg County First Steps Early Head Start as a center Director, and Center Quality Specialist. She is currently employed as Director of the Franklin School Early Learning Through Discovery Child Development Center. This state of the art facility opened in January of 2019.

Shawna has achieved several credentials and trained in Environmental Rating Scales, Program for Infant and Toddler Care, Practice-Based Coaching and Adverse Childhood Experiences. Shawna is also a member of the Northside Development Group Advisory Committee.  

She is the President & Founder of the Phenomenal Women of God Book Club and founder of the Pure Heart Purity Conference for youth, ages 10 and up, and adults. She held these ministries for over a decade.

Shawna is married to Hoyt Bynum Jr., and they have two beautiful children Hoyt Caleb a Senior at North Greenville University, and Naomi Rochelle a Senior at Dorman High School. They reside in Spartanburg, SC. She is a member of the Born Anew Church in Spartanburg, SC where her husband is the founder and Pastor.
